If you haven’t noticed, I use a lot of blue in my portfolio. Although green is my favorite color, blue has become a more accurate representation of me throughout college. There are so many hues of blue that tell completely different stories. I use pastel and sky blue frequently because they remind me of therapeutic and comforting spaces. I love being in the water—whether it's the shower, lake, pool, or ocean—wherever I can go to find peace, something I've done since childhood. Using softer shades, with the exception of black and white, ties into the calming and healing atmosphere I try to create for others and myself. When you're lying on a floatie in a body of water, you look up at a clear blue sky with nothing but the sounds of moving water and peace.
The pieces in my portfolio exhibit a wide range of emotions, often attributed to my Scorpio nature. For example, my psychology personality assessment includes a backstory of trauma, child development, and other analyses that not only tell a story but explain the science behind personality development. Since I was young, I've always sought to explain the emotions of others, allowing for a sense of control while growing up in a whirlwind of a home. All my pieces express what I often cannot vocalize to the people closest to me, represented through academic papers, poetry, and podcasts.
I believe my portfolio will help me professionally by demonstrating my creative side and showcasing my poetry. My dream job has always been to become a ghostwriter for the music industry. While this is just a dream, this class has grounded me through writing and expression opportunities. This portfolio may not directly contribute to my professional goals, but it has created a habit of journaling and expression that will help me maintain a sense of peace post-graduation. As for my academic success at DU, this portfolio has indirectly helped by allowing me to explore my creative side while earning academic credit. It has kept me motivated to finish my undergraduate career.
