The biggest issue I find with my writing, like many other writers, is creating something that accurately expresses my feelings while maintaining an aesthetic. I was torn between two different poems that I wanted to take in very different directions. Both revolve around relationships and trauma, which are central themes in my work. As a writer, my voice is predominantly about pain and strong emotion.
As you can see from my outline, there is a lot of overlap between various areas. Some subcategories I identified include complexities in personality, emotion, the need to find a voice, and writing for a targeted audience. Throughout this quarter, especially in my other writing classes, I have been trying to reach out to other heartbroken people, particularly the inner me seeking closure where it wasn't given.
I couldn't decide whether to create a song or a podcast, as I feel music communicates differently than the written word. Regardless of the medium, there is a need to curate a theme and be specific about language and word choice. Ultimately, it comes down to deciding how and why to tell a sad story.
